Not a pleasant subject, but like in real life, you can't ignore it and this evening my first 60GB PS3 gave me the short yellow light, followed by 3 beeps.
Repairing it by Sony will cost me almost 150euro's, because the warranty, although lengtenth by an extra year, ran out about 6 weeks ago.
I luckely have a second one, so the gaming can go on, but my GT5 prologue is still inside the deceased one.
I'm gonna try to get it out by holding the eject touchpad, whilst powering it on. (I just read that on a forum)
I also found an address near by, which claims to be able to fix this for maybe 1/3 of the Sony offer and possibly within a small amount of time and on the "no cure no pay" base.
I'll keep you posted.

ARRRGGGHH!!!! Bad luck kees.

Good news you have a second one though thumbsup

This also happened to me a while ago.
The power on / eject button worked for me.Mine is still sat on a shelf at the minute whilst I decide if I'm brave enough to try to and fix it myself.

The YLOD syndrome was one of the main reasons why I sold my Original Launch Day 60GB PS3 for the new PS3 Slim.

I was reading and heard quite a few reports off the net and aswell as people I knew who's 60GB PS3 had developed this terrible affliction and there was no way I was waiting for this to happen to mine. Trust me, it would have done because I have no luck and bad luck Big Grin .

Kees how do you stand with the warranty only running out 6 weeks ago, can't you ring them and put on your sexiest phone voice and try some persuading Big Grin ?.

The eject trick didn't work for me, so have to wait for my game until the repair.

Btw Jase; I just did some laps with me other PS3 on Indy and guess what, no more flashing or skipping screen!
Very odd.

EDIT: Craig, I best leave the sexy voice thing up to my wife, we won't scare off any people and ruïne a last bit of chance, do we? lol

Today I brought my PS3 for repair and when it sticks to only reflowing, new thermpaste and a good inside cleaning job, it will be done for 75euro.
There is a slight chance that it also requires rebolling of the CPU(processor?) fittings, that would cost me an extra 50euro.
The reflowing will be done with 217degrees Celsius by IR and not with hot air of 350degrees.
The man was very busy with mainly repairing Xboxes, so it will take a while, a week I hope, cause my prologue is still in it.
When it's repaired, he's gone test it for at least 2hrs, before I get it back with 3months warrenty.

OK people, it's back and it could be done without the "rebolling".
I liked the man, so I gave him my old fat PS2, a PS1 and the older and bigger PSX(I think), they were all broken down, one way or the other, but I couldn't just throw them away.
By the time I needed to get my wallet, he gave me a discount of 25euro's. Cool
Btw, there was a game inside, but it wasn't GT5pro! Embarassed

The game was in the salespack(Jase) and a COD disc was inside(Craig).
I never play that game and this PS3 is the one I always use.
But ofcourse no one of my kids did know how this game got there.
I even thought the repairman tried to give me the wrong console, but the serialnumber was matching.
Ends well, all well.
I'm still having fun in trying to improve my Academy time and now and than I'm making some progress, but soon I'll join for a race.
